Heather Leson has a passion for digital and data networks, connecting open principles with participatory design, and through coalition building she helps to create and expand open organisations.
Heather is highly experienced at delivering innovative products and experiences with global networks working on social impact through technology. She has led strategic organizational transformation for the IFRC, Ushahidi, and Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Teams. She has been in Governance roles with Humanitarian Open Street Maps and is currently the IFRC Digital Innovation lead.
Heather is also an experienced speaker and author. She has led the collaborative creation of and co-edited the IFRC Data Playbook by engaging 1000s in the pilots, a beta product, then activated 100s of playbook contributors for V1of the book. She also co-wrote a chapter on the State of Data in Humanitarian Action and articles on the power of data and digital literacy for the World Economic Forum and Civicus Datashift among others.
Clearly this love for digital innovation, open data, network centric product development and open organisations will be a great asset in helping Loop to deliver on the vision and mission of a common, collective safe digital platform.
Our distributed structure is designed to keep Loop lean and scalable without the need for massive funding each year.
